Juniper IPv6’ing With Lockheed Martin
Juniper Networks, Inc. [NASDAQ: JNPR] is going to team with Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT] to develop a pilot Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) transition test bed designed to simulate a government agency transition. Lockheed Martin will transition a portion of its global network to IPv6 for use during the simulation. General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies is the recipient of a US$24 million contract from the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command in Fort Monmouth, N.J. Thales Communications, Inc. has formed a new operating entity focused on broadening the company’s offerings to the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS => AEP => U.S.A.F. A-OK
On September 14th, the U.S. Air Force completed a four-phase transition of the Global Positioning System ground segment to the new Architecture Evolution Plan (AEP), which was delivered by the Space and Missile Systems Center's GPS Wing to the 50th Space Wing to replace the legacy 1970s-era mainframe computer at Schriever AFB, Colo. SMC managed the development, integration and test with the Boeing Company, who led a joint Boeing-Lockheed Martin contractor team, to design and build the new system.   Full Story

A Base For Success From OmniSTAR
OmniSTAR, a member of the Fugro group, launches a new VBS (Virtual Base Station) capable receiver this month. This receiver, the 5120VBS, has an excellent GPS measurement performance. The 12-channel receiver allows users to track up to 12 GPS satellites (when using OmniSTAR 11 GIS + 1 Geo stationary).   Full Story

Two For Arianespace’s Money
The second satellite for Arianespace’s upcoming dual-passenger mission has now completed its fueling at Europe’s Spaceport and is ready for integration on the Ariane 5 GS launcher. Optus D2 was “topped off” in the S5B hall, which is one of three primary clean room zones within the state-of-the-art S5 satellite preparation facility at the Spaceport.   Full Story

Navy Floats Sundance Digital’s Boat
The United States Navy offers a satellite television service to some 260 Navy, Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command ships on-duty around the globe. The service is called “Direct to Sailor” TV (DTS-TV) and the broadcasts are under the umbrella of the Naval Media Center (NMC). Sundance Digital has now reported they recently commissioned a Titan automation system for DTS-TV.   Full Story

WorldView Launch Set By DigitalGlobe
DigitalGlobe has announced that the launch of WorldView-1 from Vandenberg AFB in California will be broadcast live over the Internet on Tuesday, September 18 at approximately 11:20 AM PDT. The launch is scheduled for 11:35 AM PDT.   Full Story

NSSL’s Mod Nod
NSSL is an international satellite communications provider and the company has just been awarded an extension of a major contract to become the sole provider of commercial satcoms for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). The contract, which comes under the umbrella of the Skynet 5 PFI, will run through 2020 and reflects the good relationship enjoyed between the Ministry of Defence and NSSL over the past 20 years.   Full Story
